Savory, salty toasted almond aromas lead to mineral, Bosc pear and chalk flavors in this medium-bodied, umami-oriented wine. Mushrooms, seaweed and oyster liquor join bruised apples on the palate. Unusual and fascinating. Drink now.
There’s appealing density, with fleshy notes of peach, apricot and mango supported by toasted brioche, spices and green cardamom. Firms up on the finish, but the flavors linger on alongside details of ginger and chamomile. Drink now.
The Firetree Bunny Hills Chardonnay comes from the Firetree Estate in Carneros, located south of Truchard in the hills. This 40-hectare site has roughly 10 hectares under vine. Winemaker Julien Fayard harvests the fruit by hand, with fermentation and ageing in stainless steel and concrete. The wine is expressively bright, with sea spray aromatics and citrus peel. Wonderfully silky fruit unfolds with a warm mid-palate richness, edging into the caramelised citrus peel, white peach, and apricot, carrying through to a lengthy finish.
Medium gold-hued, the 2023 Chardonnay Bunny Hills Estate offers exotic aromatics of ripe stone fruits, golden apples, honeyed white flowers, and spice. It's nicely balanced and medium-bodied, with a round, textured mouthfeel and a good finish. It's impeccably made and should evolve nicely for 4-6 years. With Julien Fayard behind it, the quality comes as no surprise. Drink 2025-2031.
